re: Heroforge, important read (yes, even if you've seen that other post), TLDR for screen readers

@starseeker TLDR for people with screen readers: They don't magically get the right to a character because you create it on their site, but they have the right to the assets they've made for their site, and you give them a license to what is essentially a combination of their assets, how you've configured and painted them, and other information you enter on their site, so they can provide things like the share functionality.

It's important to distinguish between the 3D Model and
specific character depiction on HeroForge.com vs. the
abstract character makeup that a user already created
and is not hosted on our website. (1/5)

@HeroForgeMinis

In order to offer our service, we need it to be clear that
we have absolute rights to any combination of assets
created _on HeroForge.com_ and all information
attached to it. This is necessary to store the designs
ona server, to allow people to view "share" links (2/5)

and attached names, and to sell mini prints. Again,
this is relating to the particular 3D depiction made up
of our parts and other attached information on-site.
To put it another way: If a person designs their novel's
main character on our site, (3/5)

it isn't like we suddenly own their novel, this character
from it, or are owed royalties. But they also can't
download that particular model that was created and
depicted using the HeroForge.com service and resell
those prints as "theirs..." (4/5)

@HeroForgeMinis

it is still made up of our art assets, and that's true
whether they put it together and put a name on it or
not. Make sense? (5/5)

Heroforge, important read (yes, even if you've seen that other post)

@starseeker While this explanation is helpful and makes sense, it is absolutely not representative of what is written in their terms. The terms state in no uncertain terms that the *characters* are owned by them when you create them using their service, not the combination of parts or resulting figure!

If this is what they actually meant, then they badly need to change the wording in their terms!

@starseeker I still don't trust the clarification or the TOS
