Heads up: OBS (Open Broadcasting Studio) defending against SLOBS (StreamLabs OBS) trademark

twitter.com/OBSProject/status/

"Near the launch of SLOBS, [@]streamlabs reached out to us about using the OBS name. We kindly asked them not to. They did so anyway and followed up by filing a trademark"

"We’ve tried to sort this out in private and they have been uncooperative at every turn"

From the replies on Twitter, it looks like a lot of people didn't realize SLOBS wasn't just a better OBS. The unfortunate name confusion is real.

@digitalfox Wait, I thought Streamlabs OBS was just an OBS fork.

@digitalfox and this is why copyright and patents scare the shit out of me, even when I have the prior art

re: Heads up: OBS (Open Broadcasting Studio) defending against SLOBS (StreamLabs OBS) trademark

@digitalfox There's a bunch of ways this is true; SLOBS sells a bunch of premium extra stuff that OBS doesn't, and doesn't support any closed-captioning plugin system (okay, OBS just uses websockets, but at least that gives you options). SLOBS is almost a strictly worse choice in every way.
