@Irick this feeling didn't go away with a phd. The entire world should be on fire and nothing should work. I am constantly in awe because everything from light switches to the internet actually works ever.

I think I was never as confident in my understanding of the world as when I finished AP physics. I kept that confidence up until the point I learned enough about electrodynamics to understand a Zener diode. It's been downhill from there.

I... don't even need that much to get the same feeling about the house I live in.
Exhibit A: the luster terminal poking out of the kitchen ceiling which, if removed, cuts most sockets in my apartment as well as the bathroom light and air vent off from electricity. π
