Oh hello! I was just thinking that I should properly introduce myself.
Hello! My name is Heather! I'm a trans girl from California. My pronouns are she/her and they/them ("she walked her dog to the park" and "they walked their dog to the park" are both fine!). I like aqua/hydroponics, cooking, cycling, hiking, and tech. I a:blobfoxuwu:m a chemical engineer-in-training, a furry, a vegetarian, a forklift operator, and a parent to a dog. I'm polyamorous and in a relationship with two lovely women.
My dream is to have an aquaponics farm that can act as a safe haven / commune for queer people, a physical location where we could simply *exist*.
It's nice to meet you all!
US electoralism garbage
I'm not hopeful for the California ballot initiatives this cycle.
Some are good, but confusing. For example, Prop 16, which would repeal this garbage: (https://ballotpedia.org/California_Proposition_209,_Affirmative_Action_Initiative_(1996)) is being framed as "allow employment discrimination."
Some are good, but libs. For example, Prop 25 would give us a risk assessment bail system (versus cash bail), which is wonderful. But libs.
Some are atrocious, but libs.
It is proven! I am danceswithawoos on Keybase: https://keybase.io/danceswithawoos/sigchain#28ad4aef269f749dee4e21b62a67c2fa19962391a9172f9ef55560f401437ba60f
Update: It's most certainly happening. The exact timing is still up in the air, however.
And to the guy who looked at me down and up and down and up before saying, "... the men's room is downstairs",
Goodness, what a day :')
There's a very real chance I'm going to drop nearly everything, run away to the polar opposite side of my country, and be the groundskeeper for an NPO. It's amazing, but it's terrifying. It's exactly what I needed and wanted, but it's terrifying. It's an opportunity handed to me on a silver platter, but it's terrifying.
If you've dropped your life to go across a country, what gave you the courage to do so?
Update: it failed after 26 hours with the error message "your system only supports up to 10.3"
I downloaded a binary 🙃
Good news though: it did, indeed, fix a few things.
"Hmm... I wonder if this script would be more stable if I had an LTS version of Node..."
*looks up LTS versions available*
"Ooh! This should work!"
*nvm install 12.8.3*
*downloads a tar file*
"Oh, I hope the binary is in that tarball!"
Terminal: "We have detected that you have one core. We're going to do this the hard way :)"
*g++ all of node*
Welp, looks like my Pi's out fishing for a few weeks c:
